cardinals!

When I woke up this morning, I heard the sweet song of the cardinal, happily singing away and announcing his return to the neighborhood to any cardinal ladies that might be hanging around.  A singing cardinal might be one of my favorite sounds: happy, bright, and best- a reminder that warmer months are on the way!  There’s something about waking up to the sound of birds; it makes the whole affair of leaving a warm, cozy bed almost okay (notice, I said almost).  It also helps that it isn’t dark out in the morning anymore; I’ve noticed the daylight hours stretching a little more each night.  The promise of spring seems to give everyone a little extra something, doesn’t it?  New beginnings.

Speaking of new beginnings, Maddie has decided to start potty training (oh happy day!).  This started yesterday; my mother brought the potty downstairs and let Maddie walk around without pants.  While mother was paying for her oil delivery, Maddie must have had sufficient privacy to go poop, and poop she did, in her little potty.  My mom, strange one that she is, took a picture of it- don’t worry, I won’t post it here (although I’m sure most of you that read this blog already received the forwarded attachment).

In celebration of her poop, we took her to Target to pick out a potty for our house.  We already had small potty seats that fit on the big toilets, but it seemed the free-standing mini potty was something she liked.  Already knowing that you can’t force Maddie to do what YOU want her to do, we gave in and got her a free standing potty- a pink “princess” potty to be exact (thank you Fisher Price).  Now she’s obsessed with said Princess Potty and is already, as of this morning, walking around sans pants and sitting on the potty watching TV.  Hey, it’s a start, right?  Maybe we WILL be potty trained by pre-school time.  I already have the tinker bell underwear ready to go!
