White Post Farm

What can you do with a 2 year old on a rainy afternoon?  We really don’t have many options- we can walk around the mall (not fun), go to the library (free- that’s a plus), or just sit home and veg in front of the television (hours of Wow Wow Wubzy not exactly my idea of fun).  We decided to check out White Post Farms in Melville.  Only about 15 minutes north of us up Route 110, it has an indoor petting zoo and play area.  It’s a little pricey ($28 for 3 person admission, a “baby bottle” of milk for the goats, and a keepsake bucket filled with animal-feed ice cream cones) but money well spent as it kept Maddie occupied and happy for the afternoon.  (She’s currently napping- thanks to the  playground area with wooden “tree house” and slide).  The price of admission included a craft- Maddie painted a rock and the staff glued hair, eyes, and  a mouth- making it Maddie’s first ever pet rock.  Any guesses as to how long it will take until the rock is used to inflict damage on anything, living or otherwise, in the house?

The petting zoo features goats (two seemingly born just today- super cute), sheep, pigs, and rabbits.  Enough to keep the kids occupied, although most seemed more interested in the train ride ($2 a pop! yikes!) and play areas.  If you’re looking for something to do, I would give them a try- it’s real cute and it’s something different.
