salad dressing in a jar…

Homemade salad dressing is another food product that is incredibly easy to make and yet- so many people just don’t do it.  I’m not exactly sure why.  Salad dressing is very expensive to buy, and the factory made stuff never tastes nearly as good as the homemade kind.

I was inspired by an article in this month’s food everyday (or is it everyday food?? It’s a Martha mag) to get back to making salad dressing.  I typically dress my salad at the time of making it- a little salt, pepper, adobo, fresh basil, olive oil & vinegar (these days sherry vinegar).  My all time favorite is extra, extra virgin olive oil & lemon juice.  Fresh, delicious, and healthy.

Seriously, though, what is easier than dumping a few ingredients in a jar and shaking it up?  Try this now:

Proportion of 1 part lemon juice (or vinegar) to 3 parts olive oil.  A little salt, pepper, and a good shake.

Keeps in the fridge for about a week- just take it out a half hour before using as the olive oil firms up in the fridge slightly.

  1. I just saw this post from the wordpress.com new post list! You are so right though, homemade dressing is so easy and tastes so much better. My trademark dressing is basalmic vinegar, olive oil, a small bit of Dijon mustard, chopped fresh garlic, chopped basil, salt, pepper, and honey. The strange thing about the honey is that it actually emulsifies the oil and vinegar (blends it). I will have to try yours with the adobo!
