“lipstick on a pig”…..come on people.

I am seriously despising the media today.. specifically the newspapers for pouncing on Obama’s comment about putting lipstick on a pig…. The media is suggesting that this comment was directly referring to Sarah Palin.  If you were to hear the comment in context to what he was saying, anyone (democrat or republican) would know he clearly was NOT.

Here is Obama’s full comment:

“John McCain says he is about change too, and so I guess his whole angle is: ‘Watch out George Bush, except for economic policy, healthcare policy, tax policy, education policy, foreign policy and Karl Rove-style politics, we’re really going to shake things up in Washington.’ That’s not change. That’s just calling the same thing something different.  You can put lipstick on a pig, It’s still a pig. You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It’s still going to stink after eight years.”

So what is the big deal here…. I just don’t get it.  As a woman, the comment doesn’t offend me.. and honestly- if a woman is going to get into politics she’ll have to do so without expecting, all of the sudden, for the rules to change.

If I were Obama’s campaign advisors I wouldn’t even continue to discuss “lipstick-gate”… it’s ridiculous and detracts from the real selling points of Obama’s campaign.

  1. I had a devil of a time finding the original text and context of the quote……I found it on your webblog…….I think that says something about the press when many of the national news outlets start and end this story with, “You can put lipstick on a pig”…….debating the entire comment is fair (if not a tad partisan), debating part of it is hollow and smacks of betrayal….thanks for the information
